JOB DESCRIPTION

The Biostatistics Unit at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) provides a full range of statistical services to IGTP campus researchers and external public andprivate organisations. We support researchers throughout the entire research process,from study design and planning to data analysis and interpretation of results. Ourmission is to improve the quality and rigour of biomedical research by providing expertbiostatistical guidance. Our team consists of six highly qualified statisticians andmathematicians with extensive experience in health research.

We are seeking a Data Manager to support the development, administration, andquality management of research data systems using REDCap (Research Electronic DataCapture) across the IGTP campus. The successful candidate will work closely withinvestigators, statisticians, project managers, and research teams to design andmaintain REDCap databases, establish data-management procedures, monitor dataquality, and prepare datasets for analysis and reporting.

The role will also contribute to the standardisation and continuous improvement ofdata-management practices, promote the effective use of REDCap, and supportresearch teams throughout the data lifecycle.

We are looking for a proactive, organised, and collaborative professional with strongdata-management skills and a commitment to data quality, reproducibility, security, andgood research practices in biomedical research.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing REDCap projects and also supporting data quality across unit projects. Key responsibilities include:
  • REDCap Database Development and Administration: Design, develop,maintain, and administer REDCap databases and data collection toolsaccording to study and project requirements.
  • Data Management and Quality Assurance: Ensure data accuracy,completeness, consistency, and quality through validation checks, datacleaning, and documented data-management procedures.
  • Data Extraction, Reporting, and Analysis Support: Prepare, extract, anddocument high-quality datasets and reports to support statistical analysis,monitoring, and research activities.
  • Data Security and Compliance: Ensure appropriate data access,confidentiality, security, and compliance with institutional policies, researchprotocols, and applicable data-protection requirements. 
  • Training and User Support: Provide training, guidance, and technicalsupport to research teams on the effective and appropriate use of REDCap.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with investigators, statisticians, projectmanagers, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient implementation andmanagement of research data systems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Management, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and managing databases using REDCap.
  • At least 3 years of experience in data cleaning, validation, quality assurance, and database documentation.
  • Strong proficiency in R for data management; experience with additional statistical or programming software such as Stata, SAS, SPSS, SQL, or Python would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines, such as ICH-GCP, would be considered an asset.

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre located in Badalona. Its main objective is to increase scientific knowledge in order to transform it into solutions to improve the health and medical care of patients and the community.

The Institute is associated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, and is part of the Can Ruti biomedical campus. IGTP is a CERCA centre and is also accredited as a centre of excellence by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and is in charge of coordinating the management and scientific strategy of the campus, working in close collaboration with the other centres.
